Windows 10 Creators Update Expected To Release On April 2017

The big Windows 10 version is the Creators update,  we’re all waiting for is reportedly coming in April.

Windows 10 (reviewed) was released on 29 July 2015 and was followed by the free Anniversary Update on 2 August 2016. The next big Windows 10 update is the Creators update, scheduled to arrive in Spring 2017.

Back in October, Microsoft held an event in New York City to make several major announcements, including the unveiling of the Creators Update for Windows 10. Microsoft stated that the update will be released in “early 2017” but we didn’t know when exactly the update will arrive.

Like the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, Microsoft will gradually roll out the Creators Update to ensure the best experience for Windows 10 users, but users will be able to manually upgrade to the Creators Update if they want to.

Microsoft has been working on the next big update to Windows 10 for some time and it was revealed in October 2016. The latest information comes from MSpoweruser which says the update has been slightly delayed until April 2017 and that its version number will be 1704. This is actually a date: the fourth month of 2017.

As MSPoweruser explains, the update was originally expected to hit in March, but the final version number of 1704 appears to suggest that the Creators Update will be made available in April instead. In this case, the “17” in the version number refers to the year (2017) and the “04” refers to the month (April).

The company has already started planning for the next update, codenamed “Redstone 3” which is expected to bring a range of new features, including an improved design language for the OS. I was told that Redstone 3 is planned to be released before the end of 2017, but things are in the very early stage of development, so there isn’t a set date just yet.

Microsoft has said that the Creators Update will include the Windows Holographic user interface, which will serve as built-in support for the various Windows 10 VR headsets coming from Dell, HP, Asus and other hardware manufacturers in 2017. Users will also be able to create and edit 3D objects in a new version of Paint, broadcast video games in 4K with Beam and interact with friends straight from the taskbar with MyPeople. More features will likely be revealed later this month.

Until 29 July 2016 Windows 10 was a free upgrade from Windows 7 and Windows 8, though you had to pay to upgrade from XP or Vista. Those prices are now applicable to all users, with Windows 10 Home costing £99.99 and Windows 10 Pro £189.99, both from Microsoft's online store.
Once you're on Windows 10, the updates are free - this includes the Anniversary and Creators updates.
