Google Is Bringing Pixel Features To Nexus Phones With New Android 7.1.1 Update

When Google launched Pixel earlier this year many of the Nexus users were disappointed to see the discontinuation of the popular Nexus lineup. Their disappointment grew further when a new special version of Android was released with the Pixel. The new version of Android Nougat that came with the Pixel had many new features like raise-to-wake and improved launcher. Finally, Google with the new Android 7.1.1 update is bringing some of those features to the Nexus phones. Google says the new update to Nougat showcases more ways to express yourself, along with a handful of improvements to stability and performance. Here are the Pixel features coming to Nexus devices.

Raise or double-tap to wake

One of the most useful feature two of the both phones of the year,

the iPhone 7 and Google Pixel, brought was raise-to-wake. Users can just pick up the device and the screen will automatically lighten up showing your notifications. The new android update brings this feature Nexus phones. Additionally, you can double tap the screen to turn the display on as well.

New GIF keyboard

The new android update will now let you send GIFs directly from your keyboard. Users can directly search for GIFs from the keyboard without leaving the app. This was a feature first introduced in the Google Pixel. However, this is only available on supported apps such as Google Allo, Google Messenger and Hangouts.

More inclusive emoji

Earlier this year Google announced a proposal to promote gender equality by adding new emoji that reflect the pivotal roles women play in the world. With new update Google has included gender counterparts for emoji that previously only had male or female representation.

Homescreen app shortcuts

The new Android 7.1.1 brings you app shortcuts directly from your home screen. It is similar to the 3D Touch feature in the iPhone, but instead of exerting pressure here you have to do is a long press. Long press on icons in homes screen will launch actions on your favorite apps, such as Twitter or Google Maps. Users can also use this to jump directly into an existing conversation on Google Messenger or start an entirely new one from the home screen.
The update will be released over the air for the phones such as the Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Pixel, Pixel XL, and the Pixel C tablet.
