As promised, OnePlus made the announcement of rollout on December 31
OnePlus has surprised everyone as it announced the rollout of the Official Android Nougat 7.0 based OxygenOS for OnePlus 3 and 3T users before the end of 2016. The company announced the rollout on OnePlus Forums around 2 PM IST on 31 December 2016.
In November, OnePlus announced that it would roll out the Android Nougat update for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T users before the year ends. Meeting the deadline by a thin margin,
OnePlus has already made 2017 great for its users! In an OS update that just about has the company stick to its promise of the update rollout by the end of 2016, OnePlus has rolled out Official Android Nougat 7.0 based OxygenOS 4.0 for OnePlus 3 and 3T users. The announcement was first made by Carl Pei, Co-Founder of OnePlus on Twitter on December 31, after which the OnePlus 3 and 3T forums were also updated with the announcement.
Following Carl Pei's announcement on Twitter, there were posts on the company's forums. The Android Nougat update will, however, be available to all the devices in the coming days as and when a broader rollout begins.
OnePlus also launched the Open Beta program for OnePlus 3T users while launching the first Beta build for users to test drive. Previously, OnePlus had announced that even OnePlus 2 users will get the new Android Nougat update and that the company is working on it.
“We will try to get everyone covered as quickly as possible. The OTA will reach a small percentage of users today, and we'll begin a broader roll out in a few days,” the company said in a forum.
The last big update that was rolled out for OnePlus 3T users was the OxygenOS 3.5.4 update based on Android Marshmallow, which ironically was expected to be the Android Nougat update for the smartphones. OnePlus 3 users were on Oxygen OS 3.2.8 until the update, and have now been brought to Oxygen OS 4.0 as previously stated.
The update is not based on the latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat, but rather on Android 7.0 Nougat. The changelog includes better shelf customisation, new notifications and settings design, multi-window view, support for direct reply of notifications, custom DPI support, and the ability to choose status bar icons. This update also makes Quick Launch available to third-party apps.
