Everything you need to know about the Samsung Galaxy S8

Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to sport an overall footprint similar to Galaxy Note 7. For Samsung, the Galaxy S8 is probably its most important smartphone.

The burden of expectations is huge on the Samsung Galaxy S8, the South Korean titan's first flagship smartphone since the Galaxy Note 7, whose launch - literally - went up in flames. However, if recent rumours regarding the alleged Samsung Galaxy S8 are anything to go by, the company might have an ace up its sleeve.

Samsung seems to be compensating for its Note7 debacle with a probable Galaxy S8 Plus device in the offing next year. Galaxy S8 will sport an almost bezel-less 6-inch display, says a report from the South Korean website Naver. If reports are to be believed, Samsung appears to be gearing up for the launch of a 6-inch Galaxy S8 Plus.

The Korean smartphone maker is aiming to achieve a high screen-to-body ratio by removing the famous physical home button which coincided with a fingerprint sensor. Instead, the company aims to use optical fingerprint recognition which works on identifying a pattern with the help of light.

Samsung will introduce Galaxy S8 early next year, the successor to S7 and S7 edge like every year. This time, Samsung is expected to introduce Galaxy S8 in two screen sizes with one of the S8 variants getting a 5-inch display like regular S7 and the other device packing a larger 6-inch display. The increase in display size might not make the device substantially bigger as Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus has been tipped to come with very thin bezels. The increase in display size, if it happens, wouldn't come as a surprise from the company due to the gap left in the phablet category from the recall of Galaxy Note 7.The latest Samsung Galaxy S8 rumour suggests that the smartphone may pack 8GB of RAM. recently, there were rumours of Samsung planning to introduce something called Beast Mode with the Galaxy S8.

GALAXY S8 RELEASE DATE

The Galaxy S8 release date is likely of fall in either February or March, based on recent history. Here’s a quick look back at previous Galaxy phone launches:
  • Galaxy S7 release date – March 11, 2016
  • Galaxy S6 release date – April 20, 2015
  • Galaxy S5 release date – April 11, 2014
  • Galaxy S4 release date – April 27, 2013
While April seems like the most popular month of launch, we’re more convinced of a February debut.
GALAXY S8 SPECifications

The Galaxy S7 featured either a Snapdragon 820 or Exynos 8890, depending on where you bought your phone. The former is built by US chip maker Qualcomm, while the later is a custom-built Samsung chip. We’re expecting that the Galaxy S8 be sold with Qualcomm and Samsung chips, depending on your market.

The Galaxy S7 was rumoured to feature a USB-C port, but that didn’t happen. Now the Galaxy S8 is expected to debut the technology instead.
USB Type-C is a USB specification that should eventually replace the Micro USB ports that you’ll find on the majority of smartphones today.
Memory inside the Galaxy S8, as compared to the Galaxy S7. Sources on Chinese social media claimed that the S8 will feature a generous 6GB or 8 GB of RAM, as well as 256GB of storage as standard.

Unfortunately, recent reports seem to suggest that neither innovation will be ready for the Galaxy S8 launch, for camera. Instead, it seems more likely that the Galaxy S8 will tout a very similar camera module to the Galaxy S7, at least until we hear otherwise.

The matter of Galaxy S8 battery life is tricky, because how long a phone lasts on a single charge depends on so many factors. The first is the size of the actual cell. Here’s a brief history of battery capacities for recent Samsung smartphones  :
  • Galaxy S7 – 3,000mAh
  • Galaxy S7 Edge – 3,600mAh
  • Galaxy S6 – 2,550mAh
  • Galaxy S6 Edge – 2,600mAh
We can only guess at the Galaxy S8 price at this stage.A recent analyst report confirmed that Galaxy S8 will cost nearly 15-20 percent more than existing Galaxy S7 range
Also recently, there were rumours of Samsung planning to introduce something called Beast Mode with the Galaxy S8.

As these are all rumours, we will have to wait for an official word from the company for any confirmation about the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus.
